Short report on the second project year (2004-2005)

During September 2004 – September 2005 the Baikal State University of Economics and Law (BSUEL) fulfilled the activities towards the Development and creation of new curricula, programs and courses according to the European standards and teaching materials for MSc/MBA in “International Business” (521512).

According to the 2nd Year plan Baikal State University of Economics and Law had to develop 2 courses: International Accounting Standards: The European Experience and The Russian Way and European Business Environment.


International Mobility and Academic Axctivities

2 Professors of the BSUEL had to visit 2 European Universities to study MSc/MBA curricula, programs and courses, teaching materials, teaching and evaluation methods, thesis writing and defending processes. Also one assistant from the BSUL had to accompany one of the Professors during his (her) visit to EU country. All of them were going for 2 weeks.

Within the selection process 2 Professors from two Departments were selected:

1. Mrs Irina Kozyrskaya (International Economy Department) visited in January 2005 the Plymouth College of Further Education (UK) to study all the elements of studying process and to develop the new course European Business Environment (see the CV).

2. Mr Ilya Slobodnyak (Accounting Department) visited in January 2005 Abo Akademi University (Finland) to study all the elements of studying process and to develop the new course International Accounting Standards: The European Experience and The Russian Way (see the CV).

Both of them are quite experienced as teachers and fluent in English. They also have defended their scientific thesis and have got Scientific Degrees. They had started the preparing process for developing new courses and for a joint work with EU teachers from the partner Universities. They had started to study MSc/MBA curricula that are available through the EU Universities web sites. They have been also gathering the relevant information on mentioned courses contained in Russian text-books and materials.

The assistant, who accompanied Mrs Irina Kozyrskaya to Plymouth, was Mr Yakov Ginzburg, Assistant of the International Economy Department (see the CV).

The academic staff from European universities visited Irkutsk to assist Russian professors to develop new courses. Dr. Lars Hassel from Abo Akademi University (Finland) visited Irkutsk in May 2005 to assist Ilya Slobodnyak to develop the course International Accounting Standards: The European Experience and The Russian Way.

Prof. Peter Cook from the Plymouth College of Further Education (UK) visited Irkutsk in June 2005 to assist Irina Kozyrskaya to develop the course European Business Environment.


Mobility inside Russia

Ms Oxana Chepinoga from the International Economy Department (BSUEL) visited in June 2005 the Altai State Technical University named after Polzunov (Barnaul, Russia) to teach to MSc/MBA students of the University her new course European Business Law, developed during last year.

Mrs Irina Tsvigun (Irkutsk local project coordinator), Mrs Irina Kozyrskaya and Mr Ilya Slobodnyak have visited Altai State Technical University named after Polzunov (Barnaul, Russia) in September 2005. The project dissemination seminar was aimed at presenting teaching materials and course programmes that were developed during the second project year. Irina Kozyrskaya and Ilya Slobodnyak presented successfully their materials and delivered printed manuals among European and Russian project partners.


Other activities

For creating and developing the MSc/MBA study according to European standards it is necessary to develop the facilities. It was planned to equip the MSc/MBA office with new facilities to enhance teaching of new courses developed within the Tempus project. Multimedia projector RoverLight was bought this project year for the MSc/MBA office. Videocourse “Management of rumors” was bought for teaching the course International Marketing developed during last year.

The syllabus and manuals (both in English and Russian) of the course International Accounting Standards: The European Experience and The Russian Way have been already placed on the project web-site.
